What Is The Last of Us™ Part 1?
The Last of Us™ Part I is a video game about a big adventure. The world is in trouble because a fungus made people sick and turned them into scary monsters. You play as two characters, Joel and Ellie, who work together to stay safe. They have to travel through dangerous places, fight enemies, and help each other survive.
This version of the game looks better, plays smoother, and has cool features that make it even more fun!
The Story
A long time ago in the game’s world, a strange fungus started spreading and made many people turn into dangerous creatures. Now, the world is broken, and everyone is trying to survive.
You play as Joel, a man who knows how to stay alive in this scary world. He has a special job: to take care of Ellie, a 14-year-old girl who is very brave. Ellie is special because she can’t get sick from the fungus. Together, they travel through empty cities, forests, and other places to try and find safety.
Along the way, Joel and Ellie meet friends, but they also face monsters and bad people who want to hurt them. They have to work as a team to survive.
There’s also a bonus story called Left Behind, where you learn about Ellie’s past and her best friend, Riley.

The Complete Story of The Last of Us™ Part 1
A Broken World
The story begins in a world that is falling apart. A dangerous fungus called Cordyceps has spread across the globe, turning people into zombie-like monsters called the Infected. The government collapses, cities are abandoned, and the few people who survive live in fear, hiding behind walls and fighting for food and supplies.
Joel, a man who lost his daughter, Sarah, when the outbreak began, has grown cold and tough to survive this harsh world. He works as a smuggler, doing whatever it takes to stay alive.
The Mission
One day, Joel is given a special job by a group called the Fireflies. The Fireflies are a group of rebels who are trying to find a cure for the infection. They ask Joel to take Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, across the country to their base. Ellie is immune to the infection—she can’t get sick, even if she’s bitten by the Infected. The Fireflies believe her immunity could help them create a cure to save the world.
At first, Joel only sees Ellie as a task. But as they travel together, things change.
The Journey
Joel and Ellie’s journey is long and dangerous. They travel through abandoned cities, forests, and small towns, facing danger at every turn.
- The Infected: Joel and Ellie encounter many types of infected creatures, like Runners (fast and aggressive), Clickers (blind but deadly), and Bloaters (huge and tough). They must sneak around or fight to survive.
- Bandits: Not all humans are friendly. Some survivors will attack Joel and Ellie to steal their supplies.
Along the way, Joel and Ellie meet people who help or harm them:
- Tess: Joel’s partner, who starts the journey with them but sacrifices herself to save them from soldiers.
- Bill: A grumpy man who helps Joel and Ellie fix a car but warns Joel not to get attached to Ellie.
- Henry and Sam: Two brothers who travel with them for a while but face tragedy when one of them is bitten.
A Growing Bond
At first, Joel and Ellie don’t get along very well. Joel is grumpy and distant, while Ellie is talkative and curious. But over time, they start to trust and care about each other. Joel begins to see Ellie like a daughter, and Ellie sees Joel as the father she never had.
One of the most touching moments happens in the winter. Joel gets badly hurt, and Ellie takes care of him. She protects him from a group of dangerous hunters led by a man named David. Ellie shows how strong and brave she is, saving Joel even when things seem hopeless.
The Fireflies
After months of traveling, Joel and Ellie finally reach the Fireflies’ base in a hospital. Joel is ready to hand Ellie over so they can make the cure. But then he learns the truth: to create the cure, the Fireflies would have to take Ellie’s brain, which would kill her.
Joel cannot let this happen. He has grown to love Ellie like his own daughter and refuses to lose her. He fights his way through the hospital, rescuing Ellie and taking her away from the Fireflies.
The Ending
When Ellie wakes up, Joel lies to her. He tells her the Fireflies couldn’t make a cure and that there are other immune people like her. Ellie doesn’t seem to believe him, but she doesn’t argue.
The game ends with Ellie asking Joel to promise that what he said is true. Joel swears it is, even though it’s a lie. The story leaves players wondering what will happen next.
Left Behind (Bonus Story)
The bonus chapter, Left Behind, tells more about Ellie’s past. Before she met Joel, Ellie lived in a military school and spent her time with her best friend, Riley. One day, Riley takes Ellie to an abandoned mall to have fun, and they laugh, play games, and bond. But their happy day is ruined when they are attacked by the Infected. Both of them get bitten.
Ellie discovers she is immune, but Riley is not. Ellie has to deal with the pain of losing her best friend, which makes her bond with Joel even stronger later on.
